What is a Cookie?

A cookie is a small file of letters and numbers that is downloaded on to your computer when you visit a website. Cookies are used by many websites and can do a number of things, eg remembering your preferences, recording what you have put in your shopping basket, and counting the number of people looking at a website. The rules on cookies are covered by the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR). PECR also covers the use of similar technologies for storing or accessing information, such as ‘Flash cookies’ and device fingerprinting. The ICO is responsible for enforcing these rules.

How do cookies affect you?

You may come across information about cookies and similar technologies on websites and be given choices about how some cookies are used. This might include, for example, being asked to agree to a cookie being used for a particular service, such as remembering your preferences on a site. Organisations have to provide clear and comprehensive information about the way they use cookies, and ensure that for any cookie not strictly necessary for their website, they give you an appropriate means of consenting to that cookie being set on your device. Benefit of cookies You can navigate between pages more easily, your preferences are remembered, and your general online experience is improved thanks to cookies, which have a number of other uses as well. They may also help to improve the relevance of internet adverts to you and your interests. Most websites you visit will "remember" you using cookies, either for the duration of your visit (using a "session cookie") or for consecutive visits, in order to improve your user experience (using a "permanent cookie").

How we use cookies UK Asia Remit Ltd tracks visitor behaviour on our website using cookies, which also record visitors' IP addresses, connection speeds, and operating system details. UK Asia Remit Ltd can see how its site is used thanks to the information collected by cookies, such as the number of visitors, the pages viewed during each session, the amount of time spent on particular pages, etc. Visitors will eventually have a better experience as a result. UK Asia Remit Ltd will not make an effort to individually identify users based only on their IP addresses. You can always disable non-essential cookies by selecting and saving your preferences using our cookies management tool. Non-essential cookies are always deactivated when you first visit our websites and remain that way unless you tell us otherwise by activating them through the cookies control tool. You can disable all essential cookies by activating the setting in your browser that allows you to refuse the setting of all or specific cookies. If you alter your browser settings to disable all required cookies, you might not be able to access all or parts of our site.
